Minutes of the Executive Committee of the College Settlement of Philadelphia include occasional lists of committee members, resolutions suggested and adopted, financial reports, and reports of ad-hoc committees. The Executive Committee met several times a year, and minutes are typically concise and perfunctory. There are references to classes held at the Settlement, the situation of the "country camp," and frequent mentions of fundraising attempts and financial strain. For many years raising money for the Building Fund and finding suitable locations for the settlement houses were particular concerns. Correspondence and meetings with the larger College Settlement Association were regularly mentioned. References to residents at the Settlement were noted occasionally and rarely include any detail; administrative functions were recorded more than programmatic functions. Occasional minutes of Finance Committee and Administration Committee meetings are interspersed. Of particular note is a special meeting convened in February 1896 concerning the possible hiring of W.E.B. Du Bois to conduct the "colored investigation" over the course of one year. Other mentions of this project continue throughout the year, with particular attention toward raising funds for the investigation.
